World Bank

David Theis, an American national, is the Senior Communications Officer for the Department of Institutional Integrity, the World Bank’s anti-corruption investigative arm. In this role, Theis manages strategic communications including media relations, internal communications, government relations, and outreach to other stakeholders. Theis also acts as a spokesperson to various audiences and designs communications strategies and issue-related campaigns.

Theis returned to the World Bank in April 2004 as North American Communications Officer. In this role, Theis provided strategic direction concerning the World Bank’s relations with the U.S. Federal government as well coordination of Bank outreach across the United States with state and local government, the private sector, civil society and academia, as well as with the media.

Prior to assuming this position, Theis was a Senior Director of Communications at America Online, Inc., in Dulles Virginia, overseeing major product launches; commerce, technology and marketing alliance communications; coordination with Investor Relations and Business Affairs; and management of media relations for AOL executives.

Previously, Theis was at the World Bank from 1990 – 1999, most recently as Chief of the Bank’s News Bureau. Before that, Theis served as a media information officer and, in Spring 1996, as press liaison in the Bank’s Sarajevo, Bosnia office, soon after the signing of the Dayton peace accords.

Theis also worked in the World Bank’s Office of the Publisher and on the Development Education Program, which teaches students in industrial countries about life in the developing world.
