Global Third Way: Pursuing Global Security and Realizing the Millennium Development Goals

Global Forum
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)
November 3-5, 2005

The goal of our forthcoming three-day forum, especially in light of the high-level plenary meeting of the 60th session of the UN General Assembly in September, was to illuminate some of the possible challenges in implementing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) while pursuing global security. The forum setting enabled the participants to consolidate their ideas and viewpoints into a comprehensive resolution, which disclosed to the world the possibility of concurrently pursuing global security and realizing the MDGs.

Objectives:

  • Discussing the importance of the MDGs
  • Effects of global security initiatives on the progress of the MDGs
  • Exploring how meeting the MDGs will help accomplish global security
  • Achieving success through global partnership
