Information and Communication Technologies for achieving the Millennium Development Goals – Moving from Advocacy to Action

This year’s Forum is designed to stimulate an action-oriented participatory dialogue on how existing and emerging technologies and innovative web-based applications can address issues and challenges in the field of development, in particular eradicationof poverty and hunger, education, gender equity, health, and environmental sustainability. UN-GAID will also present its major new initiative – the MDG eNabler, a free web-based tool that presents ICT solutions, resources and strategic planning tools designed to assist governments and all development practitioners in their work towards achieving the MDGs.

Participants will have an opportunity to engage in dynamic multi-stakeholder panel discussions and participate in interactive presentations, which will showcase existing ICT-based projects, tools, and solutions that are enabling progress towards the achievement of the MDGs. The Forum will bring together ministers and senior policymakers of the ICT for Development fields, leaders from the private sector, international organizations, civil society, academia, and other stakeholders (including youth, gender groups, persons with disabilities, etc.) who are committed to and believe in the use ICT for the achievement of the MDGs.

The event will also provide opportunities for informal networking outside of the scheduled sessions and workshops which will allow participants to share experiences and build partnerships. The event will close with a Gala organized in collaboration with the World Summit Youth Award that will have its meeting back-to-back with the Global Forum.
